From October 27, 2011 to October 29, 2011, the workshop of “theory and application of high-dimensional complex and symbolic data analysis” has been held in new main building A618 of BeiHang University. The scholars, who came from France, Japan, USA, Finland, Portugal and so on, attended the workshop and delivered brilliant speeches. The workshop invited many famous experts, Gilbert Saporta (previous vice-president of the International Statistic Association)、Edwin Diday (the founder of symbolic data analysis)、Michel Tenenhaus (professor of HEC Commercial college, France, Paris)、Yves Lechevallier (senior research of INRIA in France). The workshop was presided by professor Huiwen Wang (the dean of Beihang University SEM) and Vice-professor Junjie Wu of information system.

The workshop included eight sections: symbolic data analysis; symbolic data analysis with R; factorial analysis; topological learning; complex data analysis; clustering analysis on symbolic data; clustering analysis; applications. The speeches of scholars began with real datum and proposed the meaning of analyzing symbolic datum. The mutual interlocution after the speeches was a highlight of the workshop.
