On November 4, 2011 3:00 pm, Professor Waiman Cheung who comes from The Chinese University of Hong Kong made a excellent report titled Choosing a Suitable ERP System: the Impacts of Organizational Culture and SCM Practices for students from BUAA at A622 in the New Main Building. The lecture attracted a lot of students and teachers.

The report was hold by Science &Research office, Economics &Management Academy of BUAA. The report are mainly about many Chinese companies encountered many unexpected problems and even failures, as ERP systems are extremely complicated and difficult to implement. Many Chinese companies have found it very difficult to find a suitable one from off-the-shelf ERP packages. Western-based ERP system like Oracle and SAP, which are functionally comprehensive, are often not affordable for many companies. Moreover, these ERP systems are modeled and developed based on Western culture and management practices, which are quite different from those of the Chinese companies. Hence, we propose that organizational culture does not only directly influence an organization’s decisions upon ERP system, but also indirectly influencing ERP decisions through affecting an organization’s SCM practices.

At the end, attendants come up with some questions and suggestions positively regarding the theory. Professor Waiman Cheung give a detailed answer one by one.
