On June 4, 2013, Oversea Chair Professor Chris Westland debuted an insightful talk titled "Convergence of Logistic, Information and Social Networks in the 21st Century: Promise and Consequences " during the academic luncheon at A618, New Main Building, for all faculty member of School of Economics and Management.

After a delicious lunch, the lecture began. First of all, the chair, Prof. Wang Jing, Vice Dean for International Cooperation warmly welcomed Mr. and Mrs. Westland, and then invited every teacher or scholar to do a self-introduction.

The lecture reviews the network paradigms – and their consequences for all of us – that will evolve over the next two decades. Although the 21st century is still in search of a signature paradigm, surely it will involve networks for physical transport of tangible goods (logistics), speed of light transit of intellectual goods (communication networks), and virtual neighborhoods of like-minded individuals (social networks). Their impact will range from the quest for immortality and freedom from illness, to frictionless economies that promise welfare and productivity to all.

After the lecture, Professor Westland answered questions. The luncheon ended in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere in the end.
