The 5th BUAA-UNSW Workshop on SPS Case Method was held

On Jul 9th, 2016, the 5th“BUAA-UNSW Workshop on SPS(Structured-Pragmatic-Situational)Case Method” was held. Dr. Hui Mou, Vice Dean of School of Economics and Management, Beihang University, gave an opening speech and Professor Taohua Ouyang chaired the workshop.

Lasting for two days, the workshop was hosted by Case Study Research Committee of China Society for Management Modernization and organized by School of Economics and Management, Beihang University (BUAA) and University of New South Wales (UNSW). Professor Shan Ling Pan from UNSW and ProfessorTaohua Ouyang fromSchool of Economics and Management, BUAA acted as keynote speakers. Given the keen interest of the domestic scholars in SPS case study method, the workshop targeted at the domestic case researchers who aim at publishing academic papers on domestic and overseas first-rate journals. By provided in-depth introduction and discussion on the SPS case study method, the workshop improved the research capabilities of the audiences.

The workshop attracted over 70 teachers and Ph.D. students from dozens of famous universities, including University of Science and Technology of China, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Harbin Institute of Technology. On the first day, Professor Pan introduced three principles and eight specific procedures of SPS, four modelling approaches of SPS, etc. On the second day, in addition to the continued introduction on SPS case method by Professor Pan, Professor Ouyang shared her own research experience of applying SPS method. Several attendants also presented their case research, and received comments and suggestion from Professor Pan and Assistant Professor Wenyu Du from Renmin University of China.

The successful hosting of workshop greatly improved the attendants’ interests on case study, and promoted their interests in engagingthe practitioners and conductingmanagementresearch onChinese enterprises. In addition, itmaintained theleading positionofcaseresearchof BUAA.
