Prof. Hai Yang Shared LatestResearches on Economics of Ride-sourcing with SEM Faculties and Students

May 27st, 2018,in Room A716 of the New Main Building, Dr. Hai Yang, an Chair Professor at Hong Kong University of Science and technology, was invited to give a lecture on “Economics of Ride-sourcing". The lecture was hosted by Associate professor TianliangLiu. More than 40 audiences attended, including professors, graduate and undergraduate students from Beihang University, Beijing Jiaotong University, and North China University of Technology.

Prof. Yang presented three of his working papers in this lecture,. He firstly introducesthe policy of adding preferential transportation fees to the Didi Chuxingservice, points out its shortcomings, and proposes some ways to reach win-win situations among the platform, driver, and passengers by returning non-peak coupons. Secondly, He proposes a new model to jointly optimize the two key important variables of dispatching ride-sourcing vehicles, i.e., matching time interval and searching radius. Finally, he analyzes the strategic pricing problem of carpooling and non carpool and explains the relationship between the estimated price and the buyout price, which is related to the number of carpoolers and the detour time. 

During thelecture, the participants conducted in-depth discussions with Prof. Yang on therelated issues.

Prof. Hai Yang is currently a Chair Professor at TheHong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is internationally known asan active scholar in the field of transportation, with more than 230 paperspublished in SCI/SSCI indexed journals and a SCI H-index citation rate of 49.Most of his publications appeared in leading international journals, such as Transportation Research, Transportation Science and Operations Research. Prof.Yang received a number of national and international awards, including NationalNatural Science Award bestowed by the State Council of PR China (2011). He was appointed as Chang Jiang Chair Professor of the Ministry of Education of PR China; Prof. Yang is now the Editor-in-Chief of Transportation Research Part B:Methodological, a top journal in the field of transportation.
