Dr. Haitao Yin: Eliminating Small Firms or Noncompliant Firms: A Comparative Analysis of Two Ways to Control Pollution
On 14 December, 2018, we welcomed the speaker Dr.Haitao Yin fromShanghai JiaoTong University. He obtained his Ph.D in Applied Economics andManagement Science at The Wharton School in University of Pennsylvania. Hisresearch focuses on Environmental Economy and Policy and Energy Economy andPolicy Research.
In the seminar, Dr.Yin presented his last research “EliminatingSmall Firms or Noncompliant Firms: A Comparative Analysis of Two Ways toControl Pollution”,which studies two commonpractices--closing small firms and shutting down noncompliant companies, underthe command and control environmental policy. It theoretically analyzes thedifference between them, and further empirically investigates how the survivingfirms could be affected differently by these pollution control methods.

More than 20 teachers and students of the School of Economicsand Management have participated in the seminar and discussed the study withDr. Yin. We are looking forward to the Bi-Week Applied Economics Colloquiumnext week.
