The First Academic Committee Meeting and Expert Consultation of the Low Carbon Governance and Policy Intelligence Laboratory of the Ministry of Education Held in Beihang University

On December 6, 2023, the first meeting of the Academic Committee and Expert Consultation for the Low Carbon Governance and Policy Intelligence Laboratory of Beihang University was held in the new main building at Beihang University

Professor Huang Haijun, Vice President of Beihang University, delivered a warm speech at the meeting, expressing deep gratitude to the guests for their help and support to Beihang University and the laboratory. He believed that universities should play a leading role in low-carbon development and affirmed and encouraged the contribution and future development of the Low Carbon Governance and Policy Intelligence Laboratory in this regard.

Professor Zheng Haitao, Secretary of the Party Committee of the SEM, spoke on behalf of the school. He thanked the guests and all departments of the school for their strong support for the laboratory, and introduced the practices and achievements of laboratory construction in SEM BUAA

Professor Fan Ying, Director of the Low Carbon Governance and Policy Intelligence Laboratory and Dean of the School of Economics and Management, reported on the construction ideas and progress of the laboratory. She first introduced the laboratory's positioning, development philosophy, and construction history, and then presented the laboratory's research directions such as the carbon market and carbon finance, deep decarbonization of industry, aviation carbon reduction, energy system modeling and policy optimization, low-carbon behavior, international mechanisms for addressing climate change, and key technologies for policy intelligence oriented toward low carbon. She also showcased the laboratory's achievements in platform construction, talent cultivation, scientific research exploration, and the synergy of science and education.

Professor Wang Huiwen, Director of the Academic Committee, chaired the expert discussion session. The attending experts actively participated in discussions and offered suggestions for the future development of the laboratory.

The Low Carbon Governance and Policy Intelligence Laboratory of Beihang University has been established for many years and was selected in 2021 as one of the first batch of philosophy and social science laboratories by the Ministry of Education. It is the only laboratory oriented towards low carbon governance and sustainable development. Led by the SEM, the laboratory is co-constructed with the School of Public Management, School of Foreign Languages, School of Computer Science, and Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, representing a significant advancement in Beihang University's construction of platforms in philosophy and social sciences, and the construction of distinctive new liberal arts. This has enhanced Beihang University's support capability in national low carbon governance and precise decision-making.
