Dr. Jiaxiong Yao: Illuminating Economic Growth
On 26th October, 2018, we welcomed thespeaker Dr. Jiaxiong Yao from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Dr. Yao joinedthe IMF in 2016 after completing his doctoral degree in Economics from JohnsHopkins University. His research interests are in the areas of consumerfinance, macroeconomics with micro foundations, and machine learning. In theseminar, Dr. Yao presented his last research “Illuminating Economic Growth”. Thestudy seeks to illuminate theuncertainty in official GDP per capita measures with a focus on low incomecountries, and aims to provide a moreprecise measure of GDPper capita using bothnighttime lights and official national accounts data.
More than 20 teachersand students of the School of Economics and Management have participated in theseminar and discussed the study with Dr. Yao. We are looking forward to the Bi-WeekApplied Economics Colloquium next week.
