On 29th October, Professor Mladenovic from Brunel University, England, gave an excellent lecture on “Variable Neighborhood Search(VNS)” at classroom A1028 of the New Main Building A.
Professrp Mladenovic is an international and outstanding expert in the field of operations research. he developed the VNS algorithm in 1997. This algorithm has been widely applied in combinational optimization, data mining and other fields. Several teachers and students in School of Economics and Management (SEM) have being interested in VNS and doing VNS related research. This lecture was hosted by Professor Zhao Qiuhong. Professor Jia Guozhu, Dr. Luo Kaiping, Dr. Xiao Yiyong and other teachers from the SEM and other schools, and also students from SCM were presented in this lecture.
Prof. Mladenovic firstly introduced the problem that VNS focuses on. Then he illustrated the principles and processes of VNS. He also showed several examples such that the audiences are easy to understand the strategy of the algorithm. Finally, the development history of VNS was reviewed. After his talk, Prof. Mladenovic answered the questions of the audience patiently.
This lecture not only intensifies our understanding about VNS, but also supplies us an opportunity to experience international researcher’s elegant demeanor. We believe this lecture will build a bridge between our teachers and the international researchers, and encourage the students to forge ahead for their studying.
