Expert Seminar on Video Case Development of Chinese Teaching Case Center for Professional Degree heldat Beihang University

Expert Demonstration Seminar on Video Case Development organized by China Academic Degrees & Graduate Education Development Center under the Ministry of Education and presented by School of Economics and Management, Beihang University was convened on March 25, 2017, in a bid to fuel development of video cases. The seminar presided over by Prof. Hui Mou, associate Dean of School of Economics and Management, Beihang University and director of Case Center, was attended by more than 40 experts encompassing Hongbo Cao, Deputy Director of General Affairs Division of “Academic Degrees Center”, Ying Fan, Dean of School of Economics and Management, Beihang University, Zhengbo Li, Supervisor of Case Center, and other specialists from Beihang University, Peking University, TsinghuaUniversity, Beijing Jiaotong University, China University of Political Science and Law, Central University of Finance and Economics, Southwest University of Science and Technology, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, Xin jiang University and so forth.

Initially,warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude were extended by Mr. Hongbo Cao on behalf of the Academic Degrees Center to attendants facilitating and contributing to thedevelopment of case teaching and video case.Speech of Liu Yandong, Vice Premier of the State Council, at the 33rd meeting of theAcademic Degrees Committee, “13th Five-Year Plan for Academic Degrees and GraduateEducation”, and contents specified in the main tasks of the Ministry ofEducation on case teaching and case library construction were conveyed subsequently.It is also stipulated that case teaching remained dominant undertaking of theAcademic Degrees Committee in succeeding phase, and the state would unceasinglysupport the National Teaching Committee for Professional Degree in promoting theprogress of case teaching by means of conducting activities such as case study,teacher training, appraisal of excellent cases and case contests for postgraduates.

Ying Fan, Dean of School of Economics and Management, addressed her welcome speech as representative, along with her gratitude for Academic Degrees Center’ssupports in case teaching, case library construction and cultivation model reform. She then hoped that progress in case teaching and video case forschools and universities would be scored through this seminar.

Participants watched a video case entitled “Li Du Wine Company: Can Experience Value Revive the Old Company?” developed by Prof. Ouyang Taohua and a demonstration video named“Ruike Company’s Income Confirmation: Consequence of ‘Pay when paid’ Clause”recorded by Associate Prof. Pan Lixin. Then a heated discussion over “forms of videocase and case teaching video”, “how to genuinely present written case in theform of video”, “How to apply video case in class”, “How should teachersinstruct students in video case class” and the like emerged.

Workingplans and progresses concerning video case development and case teaching videorecording were reported by responsible experts in the afternoon. The following periodof time witnessed Prof. Zhou Changhui’s (Peking University) perceptions forvideo case production and outlooks on Chinese traditional culture. Afterwards,Prof. Ouyang Taohua,Associate Prof. Pan Lixin and Associate Prof. Mu Fengli from China Universityof Political Science and Law separately shared their experience in video casedevelopment and case teaching video recording. Prof. Cui Yongmei from BeijingJiaotong University, Associate Prof. He Bo from Southwest University of Scienceand Technology, Prof. Hu Haibo from Jiangxi University of Finance andEconomics, Prof. Ma Xinzhi of Xinjiang University, Prof. Zhao Xueyuan atCentral University of Finance and Economics, Doctor Liu Shubo from CentralUniversity of Finance and Economics, Associate Prof. Zhang Lili at BeijingJiaotong University, Prof. Zou Yan of Beihang University and Associate Prof.Mou Hui at Beihang University finally exchanged their views on the development andstandardization of video cases, accompanied with problems occurred in the developmentprocess.
